Veroboard and How to Construct an Electronics Circuit

In electronics, one has to know about circuit building. Circuit building is an essential skill if one is interested to build robots. Robots, need a brain or rather an intelligent brain that tells them what to do. In this case, electronic circuits are the controller for the robots. There are the bread board, 'vero board' and 'PCB' (printed circuit board).

These three are the types of electronics circuits. They are widely used all over the world. The cheapest one, is the 'vero board' and also one of the most popular technique. A 'vero board' will have many holes lined up horizontally and vertically. What you need to know, is that each rows (horizontal) can be thought of as a horizontal wires. So, a 'vero board' contains many horizontal wires, row by row. If you have ten horizontal rows of holes, then you have ten horizontal wires.

Note that you still need to have basic common sense of how to connect a complete, closed circuit. With this new knowledge, now you can start building an electronics circuit. To insert the components into the board, you have to solder. Soldering is whereby you heat up the soldering iron tip until it is hot enough. Then you heat the particular spot you want to solder, for about 3 seconds maximum. Immediately apply a strand of flux material.

This has to be done only once, ideally. If you have to re-solder the same part, it is no good. However, take into account that soldering is a skill. The more you solder, the better you will be at it. Be wary of cold solder joints. A good soldering is when you see somewhat a shine on the joint. But, if you see dull looking texture, that appears greyish, then you have cold solder joint. A cold joint contains holes and cracks and voids inside. Therefore, it is not desirable and will produce joint failures in long term.

Learning to Design an Electronic Circuit Properly

People who are used to work with electronic device must be familiar with circuit. This is the basis of some devices such as iPods, cell phones, as well as many other devices used in your daily life. Usually, circuit is made with some basic parts such as capacitors and resistors. However, in some more advanced system, you will find some diodes as well as transistors.

Those basic parts are then built into some several combination that structure building blocks for other circuits. Some people who have enough experiences might not find any difficulty in designing electronic circuit. However, for people who are in beginner level, making proper and appropriate design might be something difficult.

They need to understand not only the role of the basic electronic components, but also learn more on circuits as building blocks. Once they understand that basic knowledge, they could modify or even add a certain circuit to other ones. These simple hints might be useful for you in learning to make circuit design.

First, you need to know well about the characteristics and behavior of either intermediate or advanced components of electronic circuit.

You will easily find more information about those components in any basic electronics text. Besides, you will also get some valuable information from some data sheets given by manufacturers. Sometimes, you can find sample circuits that will help you get more information in using the parts. Some parts that usually contain this information are including semiconductors such as diodes, transistors, as well as op-amps.

Second, you should also learn more about some basic circuits used in many kinds of electronic devices.
You will also get this information easily from any basic electronics text. For instance, you have to notice that voltage dividers are used in decreasing the voltage in a circuit. Besides, you can also make them from two connected resistors in series. Besides, you also need to learn more on some mathematical formulas as well as restrictions related to the use of each circuit.

Third, try to find a book, site, or any other type of information that provides lists as well as examples of circuits. You will find that these basis parts of many electronic devices are usually divided into some categories based on their function. Some most common categories are including amplifiers, detectors, as well as light activators. Besides, the project will also range from the simplest to the most advanced one.

Fourth, you can try to have more practices. You can simply try to modify a simple circuit that you have built or tested earlier. For example, you can have more practices in modifying a Light-Emitting Diode (LED) circuit.

By following those simple steps, you will easily get used to design electronic circuit properly. Good luck.

All About Electronic Circuits

When it comes to electronic circuits, it can be broadly divided into two categories.

 Analog Circuits:

They are also known as linear circuits. Some of the most common analog appliances present in the market are radio receivers, transistor amplifiers, operational amplifiers, oscillator circuits and so on. All these circuits use some of the most basic electronic components like transistors, diodes, resistors, capacitors and so on. Analog circuit uses a continuous range of voltage as its operating mode.

There was a time when all the major electronics companies produced all their products that were analog in nature. But after the invent of digital circuits, both analog and digital circuits have been mixed together to provide better performance and speed. Thus, the circuit that has both analog and digital circuits produce mixed signals rather than analog or digital.

There are many types of analog circuits that differ in size and performance. There are systems that contain thousands of components to other systems that contain only one or two components.

Though analog circuits are called linear circuits they are also used in producing non-linear effects in communication circuits like modulators and mixers.

There may be times when it becomes difficult to tell the difference between analog and digital signals as the mixed circuit conducts both linear and non-linear operations. For example, a comparator acts as an analog device, when it takes a fixed range of voltage as its input and outputs only one of the two levels as in a digital circuit.

 Digital Circuits:

Digital Circuits use a number of discrete voltage levels in its operating mode. It is considered as a physical representation of the Boolean algebra and also the basis of a digital computer. In a digital circuit, there are mostly only two states, the HIGH state and the LOW state. The HIGH state is labelled by the voltage level 1 and LOW state is labelled by the voltage level 0.

Some of the most common systems that use digital circuits are Programmable Logic Computers (PLC’s), Digital Signal Processors, Microprocessors, Microcontrollers, Application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and so on. Some of the most commonly used building blocks in a digital circuit is logic-gates, adders, flip-flops, counters, registers, multiplexers, and Schmitt triggers.

All electronic devices tend to produce heat as it gets more loaded. This heat has to be dissipated in order to make the computer perform better and also to avoid permanent damage to the device. Some of the most common techniques that are used to remove or reduce the heat is installing heat sinks and fan inside the device. Some computers also use liquid cooling to dissipate the heat.

Many methods have been sorted out t connect the different devices and circuits together. In the beginning, a method called point to point wiring was used where all the components were attached to breadboards which were built out of wood. Modern electronic components are designed to be connected together in Printed Circuits Boards (PCB's). These PCB's are made of high class materials like FR4 or cheaper materials like Paxoline or FR2. The cheaper materials will not have much hard wearing. They can be known from their light yellow-to-brown colour.

As years have passed, the number of electronic goods have increased to a huge number that there have been great concerns regarding environmental pollution due to its dumping. Thus, there have been unions formed like the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE). These unions try to restrict the dumping of these goods and also help in recycling them.
